Il 14 aprile 2012 assieme alla personale di Leila Ataya si inaugura alla Dorothy Circus Gallery anche il solo show di Valentina Brostean, esponente di origine Serba di un movimento neo surrealista in notevole espansione.
Pur continuando a rappresentare mondi onirici e surreali, da qualche anno a questa parte, prima con “Stories From a Neverland” (2010-2011) e di seguito con “Last Drop of Innocence”, Valentina abbandona l’immagine dilatata della quotidianità per intraprendere un viaggio fiabesco e mitologico nelle foreste del subconscio, nei fuochi dell’amore, nella natura a volte nordica a volte infernale.
I suoi personaggi si trasformano in elfi curiosi, innamorati, talvolta impauriti e talvolta maliziosi, esseri incantati e incantanti che con semplici gesti o enigmatiche espressioni, portano l’osservatore a proseguire il viaggio con loro, anche se solo per qualche istante.
Dunque ci ritroviamo ora in una selva oscura dove l’eroe protagonista del momento sconfigge i mostri della sua amata, per poi allontanarsi come nell’opera “Battle for Love”, ora in una Disney World tetra e insidiosa che scopriamo nell’opera “This Is Not A Disneyland”, ora in una caverna umida abitata da echi e ricordi di amori lontani.
Esseri con orecchie a punta e maschere di Pulcinella, unicorni a pois e creature sghignazzanti, sbucano fuori tra esili fiori azzurri che colano il loro nettare sul capo di amanti e divinità.
Nei sottoboschi animati dai colori ad olio densi e stratificati di Valentina Brostean prende vita un “diverso” contemporaneo, irreale e materico che ci sorride e disincanta sussurrandoci “Hey you lovers what will the future bring?”
On April 14 2012, at Dorothy Circus Gallery, another show will take place next to Leila Ataya’s.?Is the exibition of Valentina Brostean, born in Serbia, representative of a new surrealist movement that is growing considerably.?Even though she keeps on representing dreamy worlds, in the last years, first with “Stories From A Neverland” (2010-2011) and now with “Last Drop Of Innocence”, Valentina leaves her personal and exaggerated view of daily life in order to start a fairy and mythological journey into the forests of the subconscious, in the flames of love, through a nature that is at times nordic and at times infernal.?Her characters turns into curious elves in love, scared and naughty, bewitched and bewitching little creatures who, with simple gestures or enigmatic expressions, invite us to follow them in their journey, even if for a minute only.?So we’ll find ourselves first in a dark wood where our hero of the moment defeats his lover’s monters before leaving her (“Battle For Love”), then in a gloomy and treacherous Disney world (“This Is Not Disneyland”) and then again in a damp cave haunted by echoes and memories of a distant love. Strange beings with pointed ears and Pulcinella masks, dotted unicorns and sneering creatures, are coming out from thin blue flowers which drip their nectar on the heads of lovers and gods.?In Valentina Brostean’s underworld, filled with thick and stratified oil colours, a “various”, unreal and physical contemporary is brought to life, a contemporary that smiles to us and disenchants us while whispering “Hey you lovers what will the future bring?”
